In this episode, Marc and Matt discuss one of our most anticipated games of 2017: Near and Far. We give our first impressions of this beautiful campaign game. Halfway through Orion pops in in a villianous role. Then we talk about campaign games in general and what principles designers should consider when designing them. Finally, we end with some of Marc’s half-baked campaign game design ideas.
Also in this episode: Matt gets too excited about hockey, we say the word “whimsical” too much, and Matt poorly mixes a drink.
Disclaimer: Very light spoilers for Near and Far.

I listened to this because I’m 2 games into the Near and Far campaign, and it was an interesting surprise to hear you all reference Scythe so much! I hadn’t compared the games before that, but now I can see some of the similarities. 🙂
The funny thing is that I, Matt, and Orion all came to that conclusion independently. I was setting up the mics and said “you know what this game kind of reminds me of?” and both Matt and Orion simultaneously said “Scythe!”.
Well, I’m really enjoying Near and Far, so I like the comparison. 🙂
